Avoiding Hidden Sugar

Sugar is in almost everything that you eat! Unless you cook it yourself so that you know what ingredients are going into a meal it’s impossible to know what’s in the food you eat.

Obviously, you will be eating sugar if you’re eating things like cakes, pastries, biscuits, desserts, chocolate, sweets etc., but you could be forgiven for thinking that when you cut these out you are no longer consuming sugar. Not necessarily so. Savoury foods such as: soup, canned vegetables, ready meals, fruit yoghurt etc., contain sugar, even things like a vegetable samosa contains granulated sugar! Try as we may we cannot find a ready made soup – tinned or fresh – that doesn’t contain sugar! Try it out for yourself; look at all of the labels on the soups for sale in your local supermarket and see if you can find one that doesn’t contain sugar. I’d love to know if you find one.
