Here at Nutrition Mission we have been really pleased to read a study in the New England Journal of Medicine carried out by the Diabetes Prevention Program Research Group in the United States of America and reported on by David M. Nathan MD, (click here for report) that shows that diet and lifestyle choices are much more effective in reducing the incidence of type 2 diabetes compared to taking orthodox drugs such as Metformin and rosiglitazone. The study, (click here for study), reports a decrease in diabetes with diet and lifestyle intervention of 58% in just fewer than 3 years compared to 31% after 3 years on the orthodox drugs. This is not news to us and we like studies like this as they create awareness for people that diet and nutrition are really important to our health. A reduction in the incidence of diabetes type 2 is really important and the fact that we can do that very efficiently using good food and a healthy lifestyle instead of toxic drugs is great news! Now we want to create awareness of the fact that type 2 diabetes can be avoided, or at least the onset of it can be delayed. Fewer people suffering from type 2 diabetes will mean fewer people suffering from the long-term illnesses associated with diabetes such as eye disease, kidney disease, neuropathy and limb amputation as well as lowering cardiovascular disease - a major cause of death in those suffering from diabetes.
Our mission at Nutrition Mission is to keep every one well and healthy so that we can all live full, active and happy lives.
