Eczema (Dermatitis)

Eczema is a disease that causes an inflammation of the epidermis, or dermatitis. Eczema is broadly used to describe symptoms that are characterised by dryness of skin and recurring skin rashes that may also be itchy, swollen, blistering, cracking, oozing, red, dry, crusty and/or scaly. There are several different types of eczema (dermatitis) including; contact dermatitis - the skin is irritated by chemicals, atopic dermatitis - usually associated with allergic disorders, seborrheic dermatitis - usually appears on the scalp and face.

Recent studies have shown that food allergies may trigger atopic dermatitis so your Nutrition Mission therapist will usually recommend an allergy test for you in order to identify any triggers which may include; dairy products, coffee, soybean products, eggs, nuts and wheat. Once your trigger has been identified your therapist will look at eliminating it from your diet while replacing the allergens with other foods so that you can still eat a normally.
Before I saw my therapist I was concerned that I would hear lots of "don't eat this etc". I was relieved that the attitude to change was very positive and easy to cope with. The changes I've made have had benefits already and I now feel much more confident about food choices. I would highly recommend the service.
